The SSI Open Water Diver is an entry-level course, where you will learn
the necessary skills to enable you to become a safe and responsible
diver. You will become familiar with the equipment that you will be
utilizing, the environment you will be exploring and the procedures that
you need to practice to be a safe diver. We at Summit Divers &
Watersports invite you to explore with us this undersea world |

Summit Divers offers a variety of diver education programs to complement your
goals, schedule, and budget. Whatever program you choose, your initial
training and certification falls into two distinct phases. We start with
knowledge and skill development in the classroom and pool and later test these
skills in an open water environment.
Classroom and Pool Training– Phase 1
These sessions can be completed over just a single weekend (Saturday & Sunday from
9am-5pm) at our private facility or in 5 evening sessions at Flagstaff Athletic Club. For those
with a particularly crowded schedule or desiring more personal attention, private instruction is available. We
also offer special programs for groups or
community organizations
Open Water Certification– Phase 2
To complete certification all students must complete 1 snorkel dive and 4
open water scuba dives. Over the course of these dives the students will
demonstrate mastery of skills learned in the pool while refining their buoyancy
control and learning about dive planning and underwater navagation. Again,
Summit Divers offers a variety of options to complete your training. Two
day trips to Lake Mohave, Arizona or Puerto Penasco (Rocky Point) Mexico offer a
fun, affordable weekend of diving. San
Carlos, Mexico and San Diego, California
offer still greater diving adventure over three days. Those who want a
truly world class first diving experince are invited to join us on a week-long
Caribbean adventure. If you do not see
dates or destinations that meet your needs on our calendar, just ask. We
are always opening up new trips.
